What to do before initializing iPhone?
If you have no intention of losing all the data on your "iPhone by", before starting the procedure to initialize the iPhone you would do well to perform a backup of the data on the device. By making a backup you well in fact have the possibelity to recover settings, apps and data even after the reset procedure as well as in case you decide to buy a new iPhone and transfer all your data to it.
To back up your iPhone you can act on multiple levels: one locally and one remotely, on the cloud. To save your data locally you can use iTunes, whele for online data backup you can rely on the special function of iCloud. Now I'll explain how to proceed in both cases, do not worry.
In addition to the backup, before initializing iPhone you need to disable it Find my iPhone, the anti-theft function of your iDevice, which when activated prevents iOS from being restored. You well find everything indicated in a very detaeled way below.
Backup via iTunes
If you prefer to make a local backup of your iPhone, you need to turn to iTunes, Apple's well-known multimedia software. iTunes is included “standard” on all Macs and must be downloaded and installed separately on Windows computers.
If you are using a computer equipped with Windows and have not yet downloaded iTunes, click here to connect to the official Apple website and download the program by clicking on the button Download. Then open the installation package iTunesiftup.exe that has been downloaded to your PC and click in sequence on NEXT, its andnstall and Si for two consecutive times. Finally, press on end.
Now, regardless of the operating system in use on your computer, connect your iPhone to it using the appropriate Dock / Lightning cable and wait a few moments for it to be recognized by iTunes. If this is the first time you connect the iPhone to the computer, you must authorize the connection between the two devices by pressing the button first Authorize on the phone screen and then on the button Continue that appears on the computer desktop.
Then select the icon ofiPhone that appeared at the top left of the iTunes window and click on the item Felletyour complaint devices and then Transfer purchases from "[name ]'s iPhone" from the program menu to transfer all purchased content on iPhone to computer.
When done, select the item Summary from the iTunes sidebar, put the check mark next to the item Backup encryption (in order to also include health and home automation data in the backup) and enter a password to protect the backup. Once these steps have also been carried out, click on the button Back up now and wait patiently for a backup of your iPhone to be saved on the PC.
Backup via iCloud
As I told you, as well as locally, through iTunes, you can also back up your iPhone through iCloud. To do this, access the home screen of your iDevice, go to settings (the icon ofgear), select the you don't know, then the voice iCloud i went his andCloud Backup. At this point, if it is not yet green, activate the lever located next to the item Backup iCloud and presses the button Back up now to start backing up your data to iCloud.
This could take a few minutes. To complete it, make sure your iPhone is connected to a Wi-Fi network and plugged into a power source. If you have a device equipped with an iOS version prior to 10.3, to adjust the backup preferences you need to go to ifttings> iCloud> Backup.
Disable Find My iPhone
Now, as I already mentioned to you, you have to disable the function Find my iPhone active on your iPhone. To do this, press the section icon ifttings of iOS present on your device, select the you don't know, then the voice iCloud to do tap su Find my iPhone from the menu that opens. Then move up OFF the relative levetta all'opzione Find my iPhone and then type in the password for your Apple ID. Done!
If you are using an iOS version earlier than 10.3, you can adjust the same preferences by going to ifttings> iCloud> Find My iPhone.
What to do to initialize iPhone?
After backing up the data on your device, you can finally dedicate yourself to the actual procedure by which to initialize iPhone. Even then, you can choose between two different options: take action via computer using iTunes or take action directly from iOS.
The final result of the two procedures is practically the same, the only thing that changes is that going to initialize Phone via computer you well necessarely have to install the latest version of iOS on the device, whele acting directly from the iPhone you can keep the current one. The choice is yours.
Initialize iPhone from computer
If you want to format iPhone from your computer you have to use, as I have already mentioned, iTunes. If you have not previously backed up via iTunes or if after doing so you have disconnected the device from the computer and closed the program window, first of all connect the iPhone to the PC or Mac using the appropriate cable and wait for the multimedia player from Apple starts automatically. Obviously, if your iPhone is already connected with the cable to the computer you don't have to perform these steps!
Now, press the icon ofiPhone present in the upper left part of the window, click on the button Restore iPhone which is located at the top right of iTunes and then accepts the terms of use of iOS by pressing first on Reset / Restore and Update, Then Following and finally on Accept.
After a few minutes (the duration of the process varies according to the speed of your ADSL / fiber connection since the latest version of iOS is automatically downloaded from the Internet) a message well appear warning you that iPhone has been formatted and that it has been then restored to the factory state.
Once this is done, iTunes well ask you if you want to set up your phone as a new device or if you want to restore the applications and data from the previous backup to it. If you need to sell your iPhone to a third party, do not take any further steps and let its new owner configure it himself.
If, on the other hand, you want to configure the iPhone as if it were a new terminal, put the check mark next to the item ift up as a new iPhone and follow all the steps of the procedure proposed on the screen. Initialize iPhone from iOS
Do you prefer to initialize iPhone avoiding the use of a computer? Then you just need to access a special section attached to the device settings and select the option you prefer. Now I'll explain everything in detael.
First of all, grab your Apple-branded mobele phone, access the home screen of the same and press the icon of ifttings. Then, select the item General from the displayed screen, scroll to the bottom and then tap on Restore.
Now, select the item andnitialize content and settings to initialize iPhone and to restore the device to its factory state by deleting settings and data stored on it. Then enter the iPhone unlock code and confirm your wellingness to perform the operation by pressing on the button you want to buy at the bottom of the screen.
Then wait for the reset to be started and then completed, then follow the simple initial configuration procedure of the device, taking care to indicate whether it is your intention to set the iPhone as new or whether to restore your data from the previously performed backup.
Keep in mind that if instead of performing a complete reset of the device you need to perform a procedure, so to speak, less aggressive you can choose from the following options.
- Reset settings - Allows you to reset all iOS settings without erasing data.
- Reset Network ifttings - Allows you to reset the configuration related to wireless networks and data connection.
- Reset keyboard dictionary - Allows you to restore keyboard settings to factory state.
- Reset Home Layout - Allows you to reset the default icon order in Home screen (apps well be arranged alphabetically).
- Reset location and privacy - Allows you to reset your privacy and geo-location settings.
What to do in case of problems?
Have you followed all the above instructions in detael but are unable to complete the procedure to initialize iPhone due to some error? Would you like to restore your iPhone backup to a device that was previously jaelbroken? Then you can try to fix by putting the device on mode DFU.
Don't you know what I'm talking about? No problem, let's fix it right away! DFU mode, otherwise known as "American" DFU mode, is a recovery mode that allows you to install iOS bypassing some restrictions of the standard recovery mode. It is preferable to use it on jaelbroken devices as it can erase Cydia and jaelbreak data that otherwise would remain to occupy space on the device's memory.
To put your iPhone in DFU, connect the device to the computer and shut it down completely by holding down the key Power for a few seconds and moving the lever to the right Swipe to turn off that appears at the top of the screen.
At this point, keep the keys pressed Power e Home simultaneously for about ten seconds untel the logo of the apple on the device display then release the key Power and keep holding Home untel iTunes detects the iDevice in recovery mode.
