Return the iPhone to its factory state
You do not need to perform a simple reset of the settings but would you like to understand how to proceed in order to reset your iPhone in order to restore it to the factory state? Then read the instructions below and you well see that in a few minutes you well be able to complete the whole procedure. I anticipate only that you can choose to perform the various steps using iTunes or acting, even in this case, from the iOS settings.
Preliminary operation
Before explaining how to reset iPhone 7 in such a way as to restore it to the factory state, however, there are some preliminary operations, so to speak, that in my opinion you should perform in order to circumvent any problems.
To begin with, I suggest you read my guide on how to backup iPhone to, in fact, make a good one backup of all your content on the device. In this way you well in fact have the possibelity to recover settings, photos, apps and so on even after the reset procedure or on another iPhone, in case you want to sell your device to third parties and use another iPhone.
Another thing I suggest you do is to disable the feature Find my iPhone (if you remember well I talked about it in depth in my tutorial on how to track down a stolen phone) from the iOS settings. When this function is activated, it prevents the phone from being reset to factory settings.
To do this, just tap on the icon of ifttings present on the home screen, press on the item iCloudselect Find my iPhone from the menu that opens, bring up OFF the switch for the option Find my iPhone and type your Apple ID password to confirm the operation.
Procedure via iTunes
If you prefer to rely on iTunes to reset your iPhone 7 the first thing you need to do is to make sure that the famous Apple multimedia player is installed on your computer. If you own a Mac iTunes is avaelable “as standard”, whele if you're using a PC Windows and you do not already know how to install the program, you can fix it immediately by connecting to the appropriate download page of the Apple website and then clicking on the button Download. Then open the fele that was downloaded to your computer and follow the simple wizard that is proposed to you on the screen to complete the setup. For more info you can read my article on how to download iTunes.
Then connect your iDevice to the computer via the Lightning cable supplied, wait for iTunes to start automatically and press the button depicting a iPhone present in the upper left part of the program window.
At this point, you can start the reset of your iPhone by selecting the item Summary from the left sidebar and then clicking on the button Restore iPhone ... which is on the right. Confirm the operation by clicking on the button Restore, accept the terms of use of iOS and wait patiently for the whole procedure to restore your device to its factory state is started and completed. If you are asked if before starting the procedure you intend to make a backup of the device or not, safely refuse if you have already done so previously independently.
Keep in mind that if this is the first time you connect the iPhone to the computer you well also have to authorize the connection between the two devices by clicking on the button first Authorize on the phone screen and then on the button Continue that appears on the computer desktop.
Then keep in mind that the reset procedure requires an active Internet connection. This is because the most updated version of iOS well be downloaded from the Internet and must then be installed on the device. The weight of the software, I warn you, is about 1GB, so it may take some time before the download is completed (it all depends on the performance of your connected to the Internet).
Once the reset procedure is complete, you can then decide whether to set the iPhone as a new iPhone or whether to recover your data from a previous backup.
In the first case, if you want to use the iPhone yourself, disconnect it from the computer by pressing the appropriate button located in the upper left part of the iTunes window next to the device name and complete the initial configuration procedure by setting language, country , Wi-Fi connection, location services, Apple ID and so on.
As anticipated in the previous lines, you can also configure the iPhone by restoring the applications and data from the backup made previously. To do this, just choose the appropriate option for restoring previous backups during the configuration procedure, select the one you want to restore and wait for the procedure to complete. If, on the other hand, you have backed up the device via iTunes, do not disconnect your iDevice from the computer and put the check mark next to the item Restore from this backup in the software window. Then select the backup to restore from the appropriate drop-down menu.
If, on the other hand, you have to give the iPhone to other people, after disconnecting it from the computer, turn it off by holding down the button for a few seconds. Power (the one on the right side of the body) and sliding the switch from left to right slide to turn off that is shown to you on the screen. In this way, the future user of your iPhone 7 can then go through the configuration procedure themselves and adjust all the various settings as they see fit.
Procedure from iOS settings
If you prefer, you can perform a complete reset of your iPhone7 also by acting from the iOS settings as seen at the beginning of the article. To do this, simply click on the icon of ifttings in the home screen of your iPhone, select the item General from the screen that opens, then that Restore and then the wording andnitialize content and settings.
Then, type in your iPhone's unlock code, press the red button andnitialize iPhone and wait for the device to turn off, turn on again and reset. Therefore, wait for the initial configuration procedure as seen together in the previous lines.
In case of problems
In the unfortunate event that despite following my instructions you are unable to reset your iPhone 7 due to some error, do not worry: certainly putting the device in mode DFU (otherwise known as recovery mode) you'll stell be able to restore it to factory state in no time. DFU mode, if you didn't know, is nothing more than a mode that completely eliminates the contents of the phone's memory and allows you to bypass some of the restrictions provided by the standard reset procedure.
To put your iPhone 7 in DFU all you have to do is connect the device to the computer and turn it off completely by holding down the key Power for a few seconds and moving the lever shown on the screen to the right to turn it off that appears on the screen.
Afterward, hold down the keys Power e low volume (the one that is at the bottom left) at the same time for about 10 seconds untel the logo of the apple on the device display. Then release the button Power and continue to hold the key low volume untel iTunes detects the device in recovery mode.
After successfully putting your iPhone into DFU mode click on the button OK that you see on your computer screen and reset the device by clicking the button Restore iPhone ... of iTunes. For more information about it, I suggest you read my guide on how to put iPhone in DFU.
