The most common options to turn off or reboot your mobile device, are using primarily the Hardware of your iPhone (everything physical of your mobile), however, in this post we also explain how to do it from the software (the internal part: programs, applications), as it is also possible.

When Apple decided to remove the iconic Home button from its smartphones, with the launch of the iPhone X and then the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR, it also rethought some procedures, such as those to turn off and reset the device. The key combination required to turn off the iPhone XR and reboot it is therefore different from the one required to turn off and reboot previous models of Apple's smartphone.
To be precise, to reboot the iPhone XR, you must simultaneously hold down the power button, located on the right side of the device, and one of the two volume keys, placed, instead, on the left side of the body. After that, you will notice the appearance on the screen of a toggle with the wording Slide to turn off.
Now you just need to release the physical buttons and slide from left to right on the aforementioned lever, to turn off the iPhone completely. When the symbol no longer appears on the phone screen, you can turn it back on by pressing and holding the power key on the side.
The bitten apple logo will appear on the screen and the iPhone operating system (iOS) will load. Next, you just need to enter the unlock code of the smartphone (if active), any SIM PIN inserted and you can use your iPhone XR again.

How to reset iPhone XR from the iOS settings
The iPhone operating system, iOS, has numerous functions, including one that allows you to turn off the smartphone acting only through the software (without pressing any button/key).
To take advantage of this possibility, you must head to the main screen of the iPhone XR and press the Settings icon (the one on the device). Once done, select the general item, scroll down the page and tap the close item.
At this point, the toggle will appear on the screen. Slide to turn off and you will only have to slide your finger from left to right, to completely turn off the smartphone.
Then, to turn the iPhone XR back on, you will need to press and hold the power button, located on the right side of the body, and wait for the operating system to start. Later, if you turn it on, you will be prompted for the SIMunlock code and PIN.

Some users have found themselves unable to use their iPhone XR, as it seemed to be locked: a real bore that can, however, be quickly resolved. How? By doing a forced reboot of the device.
To proceed, quickly press and release the Volume + key,Volume - and finally, hold the side power button. If everything has been done correctly, the bitten apple logo will appear on the screen and the phone will reboot.

The only method to perform a real reboot of the iPhone XR (without having to manually turn off and turn on the smartphone again) is to take advantage of theAssistive Touch: this accessibility feature allows you to simulate the pressure of some physical keys and retrieve different commands via icons on the screen.
To use it, go to the iOS home screen and press the settings icon (the one on the device). After that, tap the general item, go toAccessibility>AssistiveTouch and activate the toggle for this feature.
Thewhite circle icons: press, therefore, on it, then on the Device item and finally on options Moreandresume, twice in a row.
The iPhone will turn off and then start immediately after. I remind you that at boot time you may be prompted to enter theunlock code andSIM PIN. Subsequently, in case you want to disableAssistive Touch, go back to the Settings> General> Accessibility menu and turnOFF the toggle for the function in question.

How to reset iPhone XR that won't turn on any more
In some cases, the iPhone XR may not turn on: the causes of the problem can be many but, before giving your iPhone for "doomed", try to implement some precautions.
First, try to connect your smartphone to apower source and keep it connected for an hour. If the problem with your phone was related to low battery, this may fix it.
In the unfortunate event that this method does not work, just continue with what is described in the next chapter by contacting Apple support.
In case of questions or problems
You have followed my instructions in detail but you have not been able to reset your iPhone XR and even the forced procedure and reboot did not help you much? In this case, all you have to do is contact Apple support.
There are several methods to get you in touch with the company's experts, but my advice is to take your smartphone to one of the many Apple stores or Apple authorized centers, in order to receive immediate assistance and simplify the process of analyzing the iPhone XR status.
In case you don't know where to find an Apple Store, you just need to connect to Apple's official website and see where the different stores are located. In case you want to contact an Apple Authorized Center, you will need to search for the official Apple website, such as R-Store and look for the nearest center using the available map.
In any case, I invite you to take yoursmartphone, theoriginal sales packaging (accessories included) andproof of purchase, so that Apple experts have as much information as possible at their disposal. If you really can't make it to an Apple Store in person, I invite you to take advantage ofcourier support. In this case, you will have to take into account theshipping costs. To do this, all you have to do is connect to the official Apple support site, tap the iPhone icon and select one of the options proposed to you on the screen to indicate the problem (ex. Repair and physical damage> Inability to turn on).
Then just press the Submit for repair button and follow the procedure indicated to complete the operation.
If, on the other hand, you wish to contact Apple experts directly for clarification, there are several ways to do so.
- By phone - Call the toll-free number 800 915 904 and follow the instructions in the voice guide. The call is free and the number is active Monday through Friday from 08:00 to 19:45.
- Chat: Apple's official support website in some cases also offers a live chat to speak to an operator. Typically, wait times are not very long, Apple indicates.
- Apple Support app - download the Apple Support app on iPhone or iPad, launch it, log in to your Apple ID, select your iPhone from the list of devices you want help for in the Get Support section and you will see a list containing numerous items: press the one you are interested in and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Twitter - visit the verified account @AppleSupport and send a private message indicating the problems you encountered (in English). You should receive a response shortly.
